Artur Boruc comments on Celtic dustups with Aiden McGeady

Former Celtic goalkeeper Artur Boruc has opened up on his dustups with Aiden McGeady during their time at Parkhead. The Polish goalkeeper enjoyed cult hero status at Celtic but, like the best goalkeepers, he was fearless and one person that he would end up clashing with was attacker Aiden McGeady.

Speaking to Open Goal, McGeady told the story of a dressing room fight after an argument about a freekick in training under Gordon Strachan.

Boruc, speaking to Football Scotland, tentatively weighed in on the matter and suggested that it wasn’t an isolated incident. Clearly mellowed in his age, the 42-year-old paid respect to McGeady’s talents as a player – even if they did clash.

“I don’t think that was just one time,”

“It was probably a couple of times, we had quite an intense relationship, let’s just say that.

“Does it come from two people just wanting to win in their own way? Probably.

“Although Aiden was always a cheeky little… I don’t want to end that sentence!

“But he was a great football player and I think overall he was a good teammate and we achieved a lot together so I won’t say anything bad about him because I like him.

“I’ll let Aiden talk about it!”

The Holy Goalie played his final game on Wednesday in an emotional friendly between Celtic and Legia Warsaw. The game would end in a 2-2 draw but the match was all about Artur. Boruc would make 221 appearances for Celtic, earning a number of plaudits as well as winning three League titles, two league cups and one Scottish Cup.

Boruc was a great servant to Celtic, as too was McGeady. The club enjoyed success under Strachan thanks to some inspired performances from Boruc.
