Photo Of The Day: A Model Of The Tower Was Football’s Prize

Today’s photo of the day celebrates the 84th anniversary of Celtic becoming champions of Britain by winning the Empire Exhibition Cup.

The Willie Maley song reminds fans of this achievement with the great verse:

In ’38 there was a show Glasgow was the place to go
A model of the tower was football’s prize
England sent four of the best
They didn’t meet with much success
Cause the trophy ended up in paradise

And it was on this day in 1938 that the Hoops lifted the model of Tait Tower with a 1-0 victory over Everton, the goal coming from Johnny Crum in extra time.
