You never want to see your team lose its best players, but there is an art in learning when to actually cash in to ensure you get the best price.
Odsonne Edouard is the perfect example of a player potentially staying one season too long – Celtic could’ve got more for him the summer before, but selling at that point would’ve also seen accusations over a lack of ambition so there really is a delicate balance to this.
That being said, there’s really no reason to let Josip Juranovic leave at this stage, while the latest report from the Daily Record puts his potential valuation at £15m. Hence, it’s hard to see anything actually happening at this stage.
There are a number of factors that go into that number, but the main one is his contract which runs until 2026, while there’s no sign of a release clause either so Celtic have absolutely no need to sell unless a huge bid comes in.
The worry would always be that the player might start to push for an exit as that can complicate matters, but there’s also nothing to suggest that Juranovic actually wants to leave so it’s hard to see this as anything other than a non-starter.
If someone was to offer close to the £15m mark then of course it’s worth considering, but his quality and versatility will be vital for Ange again next season and there’s no reason to think anything is going to happen with the Croatian this summer.
