“A good crowd is always a plus for us, I trust my players 120% to get the three points,” Fran Alonso

Fran Alonso’s Celtic FC Women side has already scored 105 goals this season and they’ll be eager to add to that tally this afternoon as they take on current leaders Glasgow City knowing that a win will see the Hoops leapfrog their main title rivals to go to the top of the league looking down on both City and theRangers.

“We’ll have to do pretty much what we did last Friday when we beat a team (theRangers) who were a season and a half unbeaten, last year they hadn’t lost one single game (in the SWPL1) and this season they were unbeaten. We not only beat them but we beat them very well (3-0) so we have to do the same,” Fran Alonso noted at his media conference on Friday afternoon which was attended by The Celtic Star, as he looked ahead to this huge match this afternoon.

“Now Glasgow City are the only unbeaten team in the league, they are on a good run so we will have to be at our best. But we showed we can beat them in both cup finals and this season we have scored105 goals and conceded only three so we are in great form and it’s at our home ground so if we get a good crowd, which is always a plus for us, I trust my players 120% to get the three points but we have to but we have to be at our best as we are facing a really good team,”  Fran Alonso said at his media conference on Friday which was attended as always by The Celtic Star.

You can watch the full media conference below and remember that this vital league match this afternoon at Airdrie’s Excelsior Stadium between Celtic FC Women and Glasgow City kicks off at 4.10pm, that’s a couple of hours after the final whistle at Paisley where hopefully we are celebrating the first to two vital Celtic victories today.

Fran Alonso’s side has been in outstanding form this season and will hit the top spot on goal difference in the SWPL1 this afternoon with a win as we approach the business end of the season.  Three points today will also guarantee that the four points lead now established over the current Champions theRangers is maintained.

Last Friday night saw a record crowd at the Excelsior Stadium in Airdrie for a Celtic FC Women match today and that is set to be a short lived record with an even bigger crowd coming along today for what will be a brilliant game between the top two sides in Scotland this season and will a tremendous atmosphere with so many Celtic fans expected.

Alonso’s side has had a big crowd on four occasion, twice against Glasgow City in Cup Finals at Firhill then Tynecastle, against Hibs in the game played at Celtic Park and then last Friday in the Glasgow Derby skelping of theRangers. Each time Celtic have played brilliantly and won all the games, lifting two trophies into the bargain.

Bring the weans along, they’ll absolutely love it and a parent/child ticket costs just a tenner, with ticket details below. Of if you just want a live action Celtic fix after watching the St Mirren v Celtic if you’re west central Scotland then you have plenty of time to get over to Airdrie. Alternatively you can watch the game live on BBC ALBA.
