There has been a lot of overlooking the Scottish Cup semi-final this weekend because of our struggles in the league this season. Ten in a row is the priority for most fans. No doubt the achievement would represent history by setting a new record, but equally, the quadruple treble would be a historical achievement too. In my opinion, winning the quadruple treble is actually harder than winning ten in a row, especially in the circumstances whereby Celtic have been massively odds on to win the title in eight out of the last ten years (Rangers going into administration and having a points deduction in the other).
Those comments are not to downplay the achievement of winning nine in a row and going for ten, but in reality the consistency to win every single cup game for four consecutive seasons is remarkable and harder to do.
The treble treble celebrations were phenomenal in Glasgow city centre, which reflects exactly how big an achievement these feats are.
No doubt people would prefer to win the 10 over the quadruple treble, as many have stated recently, but this is not a necessary position. We can win both and should aim to do so. It’s two games left in the cup, it won’t derail our league campaign. I understand the Europa League being put to one side by fans for this unique season as that competition comprises several games and is also a competition that we have absolutely no chance of winning.
Let’s not devalue the quadruple treble though. The achievement would be written in the history books alongside any ten in a row success. Sunday is a huge game and we should be up for it.
