SIMON DONNELLY has shared the memories from his first boss, Liam Brady, on superstar Maradona. The legendary attacker died at the age of 60 this week and with the footballing world in mourning, various former players and pundits are sharing their memories of the Argentine.
Donnelly cited the influence that Maradona had, as did a lot of that footballing generation. A world class talent that showed immense balance and composure. The goal versus England, in which he virtually dribbled past the entirety of the English team showed him as the superstar he was – despite their knee high tackles.
Everton boss and AC Milan legend Carlo Ancelotti was moved to tears during a minutes silence such was the larger-than-life nature of the Napoli legend. Spells in his native Argentina, Seville and Barcelona would be fruitful but it was in Naples that Maradona would make his home.
Whilst the UK media may show images of the Hand of God moment, when Maradona rose to defeat England in the Quarter Final of the World Cup in 1986, Maradona was so much more than that. He was one of two winners of the FIFA Players of the Twentieth Century, earning various awards for his personal performances.
Not only was he a superb player, Maradona was very charitable helping donate to various causes to help the most impoverished children in his hometown and adopted home in Napoli.
