A Tribute To Tommy Burns

It’s 12 years to the day since we lost Mr Celtic, Tommy Burns. It’s well known that Tommy valued three things above all – football, faith and family. In particular, he loved Celtic Football Club, but more than that – he was an outstanding footballer, who gave everything for the shirt and an even better human being.

Burns epitomised the values of this club and was a fan favourite as player, coach and manager. During his time at the club he won 6 league titles, 4 Scottish Cups and a League Cup as a player. He also brought Celtic their first major trophy for some time, winning the Scottish Cup as manager in 1995.

A mark of the man is that he described himself as “A supporter who got lucky.”

Whilst his two most famous quotes are never to be forgotten:

“When you pull on that jersey you’re not just playing for a football club, you’re playing for a people and a cause.”

“That’s was so special about them right there, Jim. Just right up there; that’s what’s so special about them. They’re there and they’re always there. And God bless every one of them.”

RIP Tommy Burns
