A very peculiar mindset, supporting the Auld Enemy against Scotland

If you support the Auld Enemy can you call yourself a true Scot? No you can’t!

International football as we know can be a bit of a damp squib compared to the drama and excitement of club football. It doesn’t even come close but to be fair to Steve Clarke and his current Scotland side, including of course Celtic captain Callum McGregor, they are doing their best to get the country excited about watching Scotland.

However when your national side is in action you give them your full backing, especially our own national side who are doing extremely well at the moment. But that’s easier said than done in this disturbing little country of ours. Especially when it comes to, yes you guessed it, supporters of our rivals from across the city.

They can’t bring themselves to give our nation the full support it deserves, a bit like they did when it came to deciding our own independence. Did you see that disgraceful Culloden banner on display at the Glasgow Derby last week, celebrating a great win for the English. They just don’t like their own country. It’s as strange as it is disturbing.

What’s the reason? No one knows. There’s many a theory. Maybe it’s Steve Clarke’s religion? Or they don’t like tartan? Oli McBurnie is no longer in favour with the Scotland?

There is of course the made up story of theRangers players being booed on international duty for Scotland, a theory that has no substance whatsoever. Yes it’s complete nonsense.

Whatever their reasons are they need to have a long hard look at themselves. Especially those of them who choose to support the Auld Enemy. Something that is bewildering to say the least.

They are Scotland’s fiercest rivals, you can’t support them! It’s a rivalry that has spanned centuries and not just in football. Can you call yourself a true Scot if you support the Auld Enemy? Especially against your home nation, which a lot of Bears will be doing on Tuesday night.

When Flower of Scotland is playing full belt especially against England, it makes you patriotic and proud. To think fellow Scots feel more emotion when the Auld Enemy’s dreary old anthem is playing is quite disturbing.

An ordinary everyday Celtic supporters hailing and still residing in Govan in the shadows of the enemy. I’m a season ticket holder. I Witnessed my first Celtic game in 1988 and have attended when I can ever since. Growing up in the 90s I witnessed Celtic at their lowest, and now appreciate the historic success we enjoy today. I enjoy writing about this wonderful football club and hopefully will continue to do so. I’ve always been a keen writer and initially started this a hobby. My ambition is to one day become as good an author as my fellow Celtic Star colleagues.

I’m English but rasie in Scotland aged 3 until 16 never class myself English
They’ve always called me jock rest of the names so Scotland first with Irish passport, and Govan mob think they’re ( obviously right wing like them) but decent ones don’t is Scotland better without them HH

  2. I’m a Celtic fan who grew up with one Irish parent and all 4 grandparents Irish too. Started going to games mid to late 70s stood in the jungle sang rebel songs and with a few bhoys from lourdes school joined republican flute band early 80s so have never felt Scottish, went to one game v Holland again early 80s and hated it i never felt part of it and then around 86 started following Irish national team and i felt right at home, games i couldn’t get too watched in Irish pubs and clubs especially the claddagh club in Southside and even though i know that the days of hampden being predominately full of rangers fans booing Celtic plyers was over it was too late for me and I am sure other Celtic fans my age are the same.

  3. Hmm, ‘supporting’ the historically anti Celtic, anti Catholic, anti Irish SFA ?
    Catch yourself on.

  4. Same mob who used tae boo wee Jinky when he played for Scotland back in the day. We’re better off withoot their particular brand of tiny mindedness tbh. It may have given them somethin tae cheer in the past, (as Their club team lose so much) but I firmly believe we’ll beat England on Tuesday. Great days indeed 🍀🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
