A week that could make or break Celtic’s season

The season is only a few weeks in and it’s already at a critical stage for Celtic. That’s not an over reaction, it’s just the plain truth and the facts are staring us in the face.

Firstly the transfer window shuts on Friday and then on Sunday we head to Ibrox. Both could be pivotal in how our season shapes out. Oh and there’s also the Champions League Group stages draw on Thursday and no doubt we’ll get the toughest possible opponents as usual.

We need new players in and badly. Three or four to precise, and signings that can go straight into the first team, NOT more Mark Lawwell projects. The signing of Luis Palma looks all but done and that’s a start, but a few more are also required before 11pm on Friday night.

We then travel to Ibrox on Sunday and defeat will see our rivals leapfrog us. Even though it would only be by a couple of points and it’s only four games in, it’s a psychological advantage, and that can make a huge difference in the way a season pans out. A draw and we’ll remain a point ahead having been to their midden and them having to come to Paradise twice. A win gives us a significant four points lead and maybe that will be on top of PSV getting their revenge in midweek in the second leg of the Champions League Play-off tie.

I’m not being negative, it’s only how I see it. I’m an optimist but even I can see we are toiling at the moment. But that’s not to say we can’t get it right. There’s still time do so, and I’m feeling confident that we can get the required faces in and head to Ibrox on Sunday and get a result.

Anything else and it will be a bleak outlook for Brendan Rodgers and indeed the club as a whole. Yesterday there was real hostility towards the manager at the final whistle and that will only grow if we get turned over at Ibrox. We have a huge week ahead, hopefully it goes well on all three fronts, better luck in the draw, decent quality signings and three points at their place. That will put the smiles back on Celtic faces.
