Former Hearts left back, and Celtic Academy graduate, Aaron Hickey has been in fine form for Serie A outfit Bologna and and was nominated for the Golden Boy award last week. However, the boyhood Celtic fan has regularly been linked with a return to Scotland and the Hoops are thought to be among the interested parties.

Ange Postecoglou has a major rebuild on his hands and Celtic are certainly going to be in the market for full backs, especially with Diego Laxalt returning to AC Milan and Jonjoe Kenny heading back to Everton.

Despite the noises from Paradise, Hickey insists he’s fully focused on playing for Bologna, but admitted that he is aware of the speculation.

Speaking to Scotland HQ, Hickey said: “Well I am fully aware that there has been interest (from Celtic). I can see it all – but I have just got to keep my head down and keep my full focus on Bologna just now.”

The youngster was heavily linked with a move to Celtic Park before he departed for Italy. There have been some suggestions that he turned down the chance to move to Glasgow, but perhaps he could be attainable at this stage in his development. Indeed, the Hoops may now be in a position to offer the player more game time than was initially possible.
