Aberdeen’s Shay Logan has never been one to shy away from the limelight and in a weekend he should have been thankful to be on a winning side, he couldn’t resist taking a pop at Celtic.
The defender spoke to The Scottish Sun and said that Celtic and Rangers have a cheek to point to the financial gap in Europe’s big leagues – despite Celtic being top of their group.
As Celtic made their way to another kick-off, beating Hibs 5-2 at Hampden, Aberdeen were toasting their second win in a row after Killie were dispatched 3-0.
The right-back, who endured a torrid time versus Celtic last week at Pittodrie was on the right side of a scoreline after Aberdeen beat Kilmarnock at Pittodrie but that didn’t stop Logan from taking aim at Glasgow’s ‘Big Two’.
“Rangers and Celtic have the means and the funds. I support Manchester City and they can do it, as can Manchester United and Liverpool.
“I just think it’s funny they can go and play the likes of Porto or Valencia in the Europa League and use it as, ‘Oh but’. It works both ways.
“Their funds are their funds and they have good money behind them, but we have no debt.”
Logan has made a vested effort to stay relevant and should probably focus on himself rather than worrying about the Europa League exploits of Celtic. Especially when his side are yet to sample the group stages.
Maybe he is still hurting after watching the ball be picked out the net four times in the first half as Celtic ran riot and the Aberdeen defence looked totally blown away.
“It was a sore one to take against Celtic but we needed to bounce back and we have done that with six points out of six.”
Celtic and Rangers are preparing for their respective Europa League ties this week after very positive results in the return fixtures a fortnight ago. No doubt that somewhere in the North East, Shay Logan will be watching.
