Aberdeen manager Barry Robson wants to sign Celtic defender Liam Scales. The Irishman spent last season on loan with the Pittodrie side but his future remains up in the air with Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers key in determining where the player will play in the upcoming season.

According to The Daily Record, Scales is wanted for a return to Pittodrie but that is contingent upon Rodgers deciding whether or not to sanction a deal.

The report states that a permanent deal is unlikely given Celtic’s likely asking price for the ex-Shamrock Rovers man and a second loan would be most likely.

Scales spent the season on loan with Aberdeen making 39 appearances, scoring once and assisting on one occasion. The goal was a particularly memorable one given that it was against Rangers and set up the Celts to win the league away to Hearts. The Dubliner is a left-sided central defender predominately but was only really used as a left-back by Ange. Rodgers included him on the trip to Japan and will want to review his defensive options before Polish defender Maik Nawrocki joins the club.

Celtic have already signed Marco Tilio and Odin Thiago Holm whilst Yang Hyun-Jan and Kwon Hyeok-kyu were announced on Monday as the club continue their preparations for the new campaign kicking off. Nawrocki will likely be the next arrival as a deal nears for the Legia Warsaw to join Celtic.
