According to reports Adam Ashgar is close to being appointed head coach of Celtic under 18s.

The 29 year old current Southampton under 21 manager and is an experienced youth coach with stints as Sunderland under 18 manager and senior academy head coach at Dundee United under his belt.

The role was expected to go to Jonny Hayes, but apparently the former Celt is to assist Stephen McManus at in the B side, but Scotsman Ashgar is expected to be tasked with that role instead. Darren O’Dea was recently promoted to Professional Player Pathway Manager so a vacancy exits for his old job, which looks like it’s going to Jonny Hayes.

That’s should be received well amongst the Celtic supporters, and something that can be considered a small step in the right direction going forward regarding youth development.

For far too long it’s been a case of ‘jobs for the boys’ not just at senior coaching level, but at youth level.

Adam has no connection to the club and is highly experienced in his role having worked at a high level down south. A move such as this is most welcome indeed as it’s an area that’s been neglected for quite some time.
