After Killie shock, Celtic can take nothing for granted against Hibs

We’re in good shape, but last seasons defeat at this stage should serve as a warning to Brendan Rodgers. So don’t expect him to make many changes to his Celtic team today…

Today we face Hibs at Celtic park in the Premier Sports Cup with a place in the quarter final up for grabs.

Things are looking up after our impressive start to the season and we of course beat the Leith side on their own patch on league duty last weekend.  However a win today isn’t a given, and we will have to be at our best if we are to advance into the last eight and keep any dreams of a treble alive.

Last season’s defeat at the same stage to Kilmarnock should heed as a warning that when it comes to the cup competitions, anything is indeed possible, so we underestimate Hibs at our peril.

Due to that I can’t see Brendan making any wholesale changes, if any at all given the way we’ve started the campaign. Daizen Maeda or even Adam Idah could be handing a start while I wouldn’t rule out a start for Paulo Bernardo, but other than that I wouldn’t anticipate any major changes of personnel.

Kyogo and Mikey Johnston will sit this one out so Brendan has a choice on whether our new signing goes straight into the team or if he’s not deemed to be up to speed after a pre-season at Norwich, then it could be Daizen who leads the line.  One will start and probably play an hour before being replaced by the other.

Brendan will have been hurt after seeing his perfect record in domestic cup competitions in Scotland fail at such an early hurdle away to Kilmarnock last August, and he will want to put that right in his aim to win yet another treble.

And doesn’t winning the League Cup mean we’ve overtaken the combined honours today won by the two Ibrox (now Hampden) clubs?

Let’s do this today, Celtic.

PREDICTED CELTIC TEAM: Schmeichel; A.Johnston, Carter-Vickers, Scales, Taylor; McGregor (c), O’Riley, Hatate; Forrest, Idah and Kuhn.

Enjoy the game whether you are going along to Paradise or watching it on television.

  1. I remeber the game well especathe last minute when Don Robertson and var denied Celtic a stonewall penalty terrible decision that cost us a chance of treble and Rodgers 100%record in all compition in scotland

    I think you’re wrong.

AJ is unlikely to start given his knock last week. I think Sinisalo will also be given this game. Bernardo probably won’t start but I expect him to replace Calmac when the game is won.
