Former football agent William Glavin confirmed that Celtic tried to re-sign Gary Hooper after the Englishman left the club in 2013. Hooper departed for Norwich City in a deal worth £5m but he was a fan favourite in Paradise and Glavin told Celtic Now and Forever podcast that the club tried to re-sign Hooper but that a deal never transpired.

“Gary loved his time at Celtic. There have been a couple of occasions over the years when he could’ve been back but it just didn’t work out.

“Some people tried to do it I remember, a few years back actually, and it didn’t quite work out.”

Hooper’s most prolific spell occurred when he scored 82 goals in 138 games for Celtic between 2010 and 2013 before leaving to sign for Norwich City, where he went on to make 34 appearances in the Premier League.

Hooper has an enviable record as a proven and prolific goal scorer having scored over 200 goals in some of the toughest leagues in the world, including scoring twice in the UEFA Champions League. In recent seasons, he has found himself in New Zealand and India.

He is the first and only player ever to have scored in the Premier League, Championship, League One, League Two, FA Cup, League Cup, Football League Trophy, FA Trophy, UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League, Scottish Cup, Scottish League Cup and the Scottish Premier League.
