Alan Brazil’s Postecoglou Fear

TalkSport host and former professional footballer Alan Brazil is a known Celtic fan, but he was hardly ecstatic over the announcement of Ange Postecoglou as manager at the beginning of last season.

The former striker said he had never heard of the Australian, despite it later emerging that the pair had played against each other in the past! He was a little disrespectful of Ange and slammed the appointment, but fortunately he was proven wrong as the Celtic manager guided his team to an unexpected league and Cup double last term and looks set to do at least the same this time around, with the chance to go one better and possible secure a domestic treble.

Prepared to eat humble pie, Brazil spoke to the media at this week’s Cheltenham horse racing festival.

He told AceOdds: “Celtic have a lot of character. I’d never heard of the manager, and it turns out I played against him at the end of my career, when I played for Wollongong, we played Melbourne and he was on the team sheet, someone sent me it.

“I’ve yet to bump into him. I’m scared to! Because I was saying, ‘who’s this guy? What’s going on? Where did he come from?’ And he’s proved us all wrong. He certainly proved me wrong. And they tell me he’s a great guy.

“So they’ve still got every chance of doing the treble, they really have. And my worry is, will we keep him? But rumour has it, he will sign a new contract at Celtic, he loves it.”

Brazil also jokingly remarked that he is “scared” of bumping into Postecoglou, which he hasn’t done yet. But the Celtic boss doesn’t seem too bothered by the whole episode. He knew he had doubters and he enjoyed proving them wrong.
