Valle has shown enough to earn a start against Ross County…

01 10 2024,  UEFA Champions League, Borussia Dortmund v Celtic Glasgow  l Alex Valle Celtic FC

One plus to come out of last night’s thumping by Borussia Dortmund was the second half appearance of Alex Valle. The Bhoy from Barcelona appeared as a substitute for Greg Taylor who like most of the side has a nightmare first half, although to be fair to Greg, I think he may be carrying a calf injury from the weekend.

The on-loan Barcelona kid didn’t look out of place at this level despite the fact we were given a torrid time by last season’s Champions League finalists.  He’s comfortable on the ball and didn’t shirk his defensive duties even looking more than a match for players with better physiques than he possesses.

He looked the part against St Johnstone on Saturday evening also, so I think it only makes sense that he start our next game on Sunday up at Dingwall against Ross County. This will also allow Greg Taylor some time to recover and he must surely be a doubt for the upcoming Scotland fixtures.  It would be better all round if he could sit those meaningless matches out.

With Greg carrying a knock it gives Brendan the perfect opportunity to give Alex his first start in the hoops. He’s proved he can handle the rough and tumble of Scottish football after his two appearances.

He admittedly had a shaky start against Falkirk – up until yesterday the best team we have faced all season – but was much improved against St Johnstone where he possibly earned for himself the assist of the season for Adam Idah’s goal.

Alex didn’t look out of place against Dortmund, so he more than deserves a chance of a run in the team starting in Dingwall on Sunday for the midday kick-off.
