Celtic supporters were pleasantly surprised yesterday evening when Fabrizio Romano reported on a Celtic incoming as opposed to an outgoing. The reliable and well-informed  transfer guru reported that we were on the verge of signing Barcelona youth prospect Alex Valle on a season long loan.

That was confirmed by the ‘in the know ‘Fabrizio later that evening when it was confirmed a deal had been struck that the 20 year old would be travelling to Glasgow on Monday to finalise the move.

Valle has still to register a first team appearance at the Catalan giants, but he is highly rated amongst the coaching staff and supporters alike, which is always a good sign. He’s had loan spells at FC Andorra and most recently Segunda side Levante (second tier of Spanish football), where he spent last season on loan making 29 first team appearances.

Valle will be expected to give Greg Taylor some much needed competition, but at a reported £24,000 a week salary it could be that Brendan is planning to give him much more game time.

Brendan was also instrumental in bringing the youngster to the club, showing once again that he is an elite manager. One that the Celtic support is lucky to have. Let’s hope Brendan is backed much further before the week is finished. It’s certainly been an encouraging start to the week with new transfer stories breaking on additional moves being made by Celtic, which have been reported on The Celtic Star this morning.

Better late than never.

  1. What’s the point in a loan signing with no option to buy, look at the farce situation with Idah, the players get used to him playing and at end of season he disappears and the search starts all over again.

  2. Raymond Duffy on

I know I’ll get slaughtered, but I just don’t like loan deals, especially this one, with no option to buy. So, £24,000 a week to give game time to a lad which Barcelona, obviously, want to keep at our expense!!
Again, what’s the point of our own academy??
