Alexandro Bernabei has built momentum in Brazil after leaving Celtic, with Internacional moving to make his transfer permanent following a successful loan spell.
Alexandro Bernabei’s move to Internacional followed a loan period in which the former Celtic left-back impressed the Brazilian club. Reports said the Argentine defender’s permanent transfer was close to being finalised after Internacional pursued a deal on the back of his improved performances.
Bernabei had struggled to secure a place in Brendan Rodgers’ team before joining Internacional on loan. The reported agreement was valued at €6m, including €500,000 in performance-related bonuses. Celtic had originally signed him for £3.75m, with reports indicating the move would generate a profit for the Scottish club.
Recognition in Brazil
Bernabei’s loan spell at Internacional brought recognition in the Brazilian Serie A Team of the Year. He was also named the best left-back in the 2024 Brasileirão, according to reports.
During his loan spell, Bernabei played 25 matches and scored three goals. Another report credited him with three goals and five assists in 23 matches as Internacional considered a permanent deal.
Internacional’s interest reflected Bernabei’s progress in Brazil after his difficulties in establishing himself at Celtic. The permanent move offers the left-back the opportunity to continue his career with the Brazilian club.
