Alistair Johnston is in contention to make a comeback against St Johnstone at Celtic park tomorrow after a spell out injured. The Canadian defender has been outstanding for the club since signing in January. His displays have helped him earn three trophies in that short period, one more than a certain Ibrox hall of fame inductee has in eight years.
AJ’s comeback has come at a time when we are in the middle of an injury crisis, so this is very welcome news indeed, especially as he is more than capable of playing as a central defender.
With CCV Nawrocki and Stephen Welsh all out, AJ will give our fragile defence a big boost. It’s also worth mentioning again – we’ve been saying it all week – that the Canada international defender can play at centre back, a position he’s played on many occasions in his career, including for his country.
Will Brendan slot him into the centre of defence or put him back in his favoured right back berth? It remains to be seen, but it does give us another option for our rear guard which is down to the bare bones. Regardless of where he plays on Saturday, having Alistair back in the side is very welcoming news indeed with a lot of vital games on the horizon.
