Yesterday we reported on the double charges that appeared to have been widespread affecting supporters at the Celtic v St Mirren game on Wednesday night who used the catering facilities paying by contactless or by card insertion. Frustratingly Celtic stopped accepting cash payments after we returned to games due to the pandemic, but this really should be reconsidered and a cash payment option restored.
Like many supporters we prefer to spend this money inside the stadium rather than outside as there is a belief that this helps the club more. Maybe that’s true or maybe not but this situation gives supporters less confidence in using the contactless card only system of payment that is in operation and in midweek failed miserably.
Celtic were telling fans to go to their card provider for a refund yesterday morning but that later changed as the scale of the problem became apparent. The Celtic Star’s article was widely read and presumably resulted in many supporters checking their own back accounts to discover that they too had been charged twice for their pie and bovril.

Celtic then clarified the matter, apologies were given and everyone was assured that their refund was being sorted. No worries there, although plenty of humour from Celtic fans in the responses – mostly about signing CCV and Jota with the money – and from the dark minds of sick individuals who turn this and I suppose everything else – into something relating to child abuse. They really should seek professional assistance for this horrible mindset.
Here’s what Celtic said to clear up the matter. In the meantime the club really should re-consider the situation re taking cash payments from supporters using the catering facilities inside Celtic Park.

“Due to a technical error within the systems of our stadium catering partner unfortunately a duplicate charge has been made on transactions carried out at Wednesday’s match against St. Mirren. All supporters affected will be refunded automatically as soon as possible.
“Celtic FC and Sodexo Live apologise sincerely to those supporters affected. Please see the Sodexo statement below:
