All Quiet on the Transfer Front – Brendan Rodgers and his five-a-side Celtic

“I think in terms of the speculation and gossip over the last week or so I’m preparing for a five-aside game!” Brendan Rodgers

Brendan Rodgers has told Sky Sports that Matt O’Riley is in Celtic’s squad for Sunday match at St Mirren, with no approaches for Kyogo. The Celtic manager does expect a few departures over the next week, players going out as they’re looking for more game-time. That suggests the likes of Mikey Johnston more that Kyogo or Matt O’Riley.

There’s been no direct approach from Manchester City and there’s nothing further to add on the much discussed Matt O’Riley move to Brighton, which curiously has gone rather quiet.

In terms of incomings Brendan restates the need for quality additions to improve Celtic for the Champions League. With the draw just around the corner we’re about to discover the scale of the challenge ahead.  Brendan points to the fact that with the goalkeeping situation resolved with two in and two out, the return of Paulo Bernardo and Adam Idah on permanent contracts basically keeps us where we were at the end of last season.

So not weaker but so far not stronger either, and that’s with the likelihood of one of our top players being sold next week.

“We haven’t spent a great deal of money in terms of what we’re at and where we expect to be at as a club”, the Celtic manager said to Sky Sports ahead of going into his media conference at Lennoxtown.

“I would look at us over the next week to be able to do some business and it shouldn’t be reliant on players going out. We’re virtually running at the same as where we were last season. If our idea is to improve, hopefully, we’ll be active in the market over the next week.”
