According to the Star, preliminary talks have began between Celtic and Sheffield Wednesday over the potential signing of Owls Academy graduate Liam Shaw.

Shaw burst onto the scene this season after progressing through the youth ranks at the club. Now, having entered the final six months of his deal, clubs outside of England are free to open pre-contract negotiations with the 19-year-old player.

BREAKING: Deal agreed – Celtic seal pre-contract for Ben Davies

Shaw is a promising youngster who can play in either midfield or at the back. He is thought to be in no rush to decide his future and is open to remaining at Sheffield Wednesday, though he is happy to weigh up his options.

The Star suggests that Shaw is in discussion with Celtic as well as the Owls so no deal is close, but he could end up at Paradise depending on what each club can offer the player.

Should Shaw leave, then Sheffield Wednesday would be entitled to some form of compensation. However, the figure will be lower if he does go to Celtic, than if he were to depart for another English club.

With Brexit affecting the movement of players, we may see more of these type of deals from Celtic in the future.

Indeed, Ben Davies has just signed for the club on a pre-contract agreement from Preston.
