A report this morning in Daily Record claims that Ange Postecoglou is set to battle with Manchester United for the signature of a top Celtic talent. The former Celtic manager, who left the club just under a year ago, is looking to take his Tottenham rebuild a stage further and may now use his knowledge of the quality within the Celtic squad to his advantage.
And that could mean an imminent move for Daniel Kelly who has yet to agree on a contract extension with Celtic with his current contract running out at the end of the year.
Celtic have been in negotiations with the agents for Kelly and also Rocco Vata but no agreement has been reached. Vata’s contract expires at the end of this month.
Both players were given game-time by Brendan Rodgers in the second half of the season with both notching their first goals for the club at senior level. In the first half of the season the B Team players were pretty much excluded from first team squads due to the large number of summer project signings that had to be evaluated and given their opportunity.
Kelly is free to speak to potential suitors from 1st July and while Ange Postecolgou would fancy his chances of securing a deal with the highly rated midfielder, there’s plenty of other options open to Kelly including new interest from Manchester United and plenty of interest from the continent including from German Champions Bayer Leverkusen and also from Italian sides Bologna and newly promoted Como.
Celtic have reportedly made a final offer to both Daniel Kelly and Rocco Vata but no update on how that went has been reported. In this instance no news is hardly likely to be good news and this has the hallmarks of another Ben Doak situation.
