Ange Postecoglou uses Celtic examples to explain to Spurs how trophies are won

Ange Postecoglou has used his experience in his first season at Celtic to explain his approach to being a winner to Tottenham and their supporters.

Via The Spurs Express, the former Celtic manager makes the point that he fully understands the Spurs/ Arsenal rivalry but that should not mean that they don’t play their own game in pursuit of trophies. Ange explained how Tottenham can make sure that Arsenal don’t lift silverware and that’s by winning it themselves, as he did at Celtic.

“I do get it and, do you know? When I started at Celtic, it was the same sort of discussion. Don’t forget, when I took over Rangers had won it the year before, and Celtic hadn’t won anything, which is quite extraordinary for that football club,” Ange said.

“Like, they’ve gone from trebles to not one trophy, and when I first got there, there was a lot of talk – some internal as well – about what Rangers were doing.

“And I was pretty consistent and it would be on public record, saying ‘we’ve got to worry about ourselves. Don’t worry about anyone else. Just be the best you can be’. And I’ve said a number of times that if you run your own race then when you get to the finish line, have a look around and see where you finish. Don’t worry about what the person next to you is doing,” Ange added.

“And I’ve always been consistent with that. And I was up there. I thought it was really important up there because I felt like there was too much of an obsession with what was happening at Rangers at the time because they were ahead.

“We were never going to catch them if that’s what we were always obsessed about because you can’t control that.

“You can’t control what another club does. You want to stop another club winning a trophy? Win it yourselves! That’s the answer. That doesn’t mean you don’t want them to lose. I get that absolutely.”

It’s a lesson Tottenham and their supporters will have to learn if they are going to become club that actually wins major honours.

  1. Spuds are the hibs of England. They believe they are entitled to win things and think they are a big club, but they aren’t, and they don’t do anything to become a big club or push towards winning things.

    Spibs.

    • Actually, you just described the new tribute club who go under the name of “the rangers”.
They are a club who like their predecessors, came into the league believing that they were entitled to “win” things, or at least be gifted titles and trophies the same way their predecessors had been for years before them.
For a while, they have been in many ways of course. Blatantly being gifted ghost penalties etc whenever they need them to salvage points etc.
But no club is entitled to “win” this way, not even the SFA establishment club from Govan!

  2. Building the best football stadium in England is not doing something ? Just for money ? There is better things to do with £1b than built a stadium to earn money . Muppets ,
