Ange Postecoglou has confirmed that Celtic are closing in on a deal for Sead Haksabanovic. The Rubin Kazan midfielder fits the bill of being a versatile option and the rumour is that he will undergo a Celtic medical this week. As Celtic pushed to the top of the league, opening a two-point gap on Rangers, the manager is keen to keep recruiting well.

After the 2-0 win at home to Hearts, the Australian confirmed to Sky Sports that the deal for the Montenegro Internationalist was close.

“Yeah, I think that’s a fair assessment. It’s getting close.”

When promoted by the Sky reporter as to whether it would be done this week, Postecoglou simply replied “It’s getting close” with a wry smile on his face.

At 23, he represents a good age but it would pose some questions for players currently in need of game time – such as Mikey Johnston. The rumour mill for exits appears to have calmed down with little or no talk around Albian Ajeti or Christopher Jullien. Haksabanovic would be an option at left-wing but can also play on the other flank and central attacking midfield.

The Russians are believed to be willing to allow a transfer to Celtic to sign the ex-West Ham player for a reduced fee.
