Celtic losing to Lazio on Wednesday night was the highlight of this season for theRangers supporters, judging by their euphoria on social media, in their fan media and on their various forums.

Alongside Celtic’s League cup defeat at Kilmarnock, the goalless draw with St Johnstone and the defeat in Rotterdam this was another reason for the Bears to celebrate and feel a wee bit better about themselves and their pathetic football club.

But in true Banter Years style it lasted less than 24 hours. Yes the happiness hung around as long as interim Manager Cheer Up Stevie D  when Davies was asked to transfer his contract from Rangers FC (in liquidation) to theRangers FC founded in 2012 by the Yorkshireman with big hands, Charles “I bought those titles’ Green.

Yes although we got beat in agonising circumstances, we played well and were far from disgraced against a top side in football’s premier club competition, the Champions League.

The Bears travelled all the way to a holiday resort in Cyprus to see their side get beaten by a side who sit 5th in the Cypriot table who ground share with two other sides and who are competing in European group stage football for the first time.

Celtic’s defeat was a god send for them as it let them forget about their dreadful start to the season, the millions Mick Beale has wasted bring in a collection of duds, that’s left them third in the league, no manager and basically been damn right rotten. They play St Mirren at the weekend and are second favourites to win that game on Sunday at Paisley, another indication of how far they have fallen since they chased Van Bronckhorst who had taken them to a penalty shoot-out in the Europa League Final.

Imagine sacking him (due to fan pressure) only to bring in Mick Beale! Silly old Bears!

Crashing to defeat against the ground-sharing Cypriot minnows wiped the smirks from their faces, and brought them back to reality. Poor Bears can’t catch a break. Long may it continue.
