Celtic are set to announce the signing of Paulo Bernardo after the Portuguese midfielder completed his medical. The Scottish Champions had been keen to bring the player back to Paradise after a successful loan spell but were reluctant to pay the £6m buy-out fee.
According to Mail Sport, Bernardo has completed the medical and is set to sign a five-year deal with a reported fee of around £3.5m.
Bernardo scored four times and assisted three times in thirty three appearances for Celtic last season and proved himself to be an important first team player. The manager initially utilised Bernardo in Champions League games before he grew into a more prominent first team player in all competitions. Bernardo provided some brilliant moments – namely his goal against Rangers at the turn of the year and then the assist in the Scottish Cup Final. It was clear that the manager saw promise in Bernardo and the fact that the club are bringing him back confirms that.
Celtic have already added Kasper Schmeichel and Viljami Sinisalo to their ranks but Bernardo would become the third signing of the summer. The club are hopeful that they can negotiate a deal to bring Adam Idah back to Paradise after he was disciplined by Norwich for missing the team flight.
About time, another deal that has dragged on for an eternity at this stage?
