As a Celtic supporter, Euro 2024 final has shades of Seville 2022

Tonight’s Euro 224 final has vibes of Europa League final in 2022. I said at the time I’d take an England tournament victory over a Rangers Euro win and tonight that might actually happen.

The Europa League final of 2022 was a tense time for Celtic supporters. Having to watch on as our rivals had the chance of winning a European trophy albeit the lesser of the two competitions, was very frustrating.

If they won we’d never hear the end of it. Better than Lisbon they were saying, both the Scottish mainstream media and the Ibrox supporters. Deluded and wrong yes, but they could still say it, and the only thing to shut them up was a Frankfurt victory.

The attitude of theRangers supporters and the SMSM are eerie similar to the attitude of the English supporters and media at major tournaments. They are two cheeks of the same backside of course, so we shouldn’t really be surprised.

I said at the time that I’d take England lifting a major international trophy over the Ibrox side winning a European honour, does that sound petty? Yes it is yet I’m proud to say so. I’m not going to kid you, I don’t want them winning anything. I don’t care if they’re representing Scotland, they are our bitter rivals and I don’t want to see them do well in anything.

It’s the same the other way around and rightly so, it’s a rivalry and the way it should be. Thankfully Frankfurt prevailed and won after a tense penalty shootout, saving us from the never ending gloating that would have followed a Rangers victory.

I like every other Celtic supporter breathed a huge sigh of relief and still stood by my words that I’d rather put up with the never ending misery of an English tournament victory than witness theRangers taste European glory.

Tonight that could indeed happen as England take on Spain in the final of Euro 2024.  As agonising an English victory would be it still wouldn’t be as bad as theRangers being successful that night in Seville.

Fingers crossed though tonight has the same outcome as that 2022 final and the good guys win. Eviva Espana.

If Spain win then they will have gone through the entire Euro 2024 campaign, qualifiers and the finals in Germany, having lost just one match. At Hampden Park to Scotland. Something to remind the English about if they lose tonight.

Just an Ordinary Bhoy
