Atalanta coming back for Matt O’Riley after being told they need deeper pockets

Europa League winners Atalanta in for Matt O’Riley, but have been told by Celtic that they need deeper pockets…

Italian side Atalanta are the latest club to have a bid for Matt O’Riley rejected by Celtic but they refuse to be discouraged and are planning an improved bid after Celtic’s intention to receive a record breaking fee if they are going to sell the midfielder this summer was clearly relayed to the Italian club.

The Serie A side better have big pockets as it’s going to take a higher bid of their opening offer believed to have been £20 million, with O’Riley possibly going to achieve a £30 million fee for Celtic by selling their most prized asset.

The previous record transfer paid out by the side who finished 4th in Serie A last season was €29 million which they stumped up for Malian international striker El Bilal Toure.

They will have to at least match that number or beat it if they want to sign Matt. The Danish international has become a very valuable player at Celtic and has great potential to become even better.

That will have a big reflection on wether Celtic will reluctantly part with Matt. For far too long now clubs have seen our assets as ‘cheap’ options and have offered way below market value.

We’re now digging our heels in to get top dollar not just for Matt but any of our top players when clubs inevitably come knocking on the door.

Over to you Atalanta and indeed any other interested club. If you want our top assets be prepared to pay big bucks. Matt O’Riley at a record breaking transfer fee or forget it, that’s the message from Celtic.

With the Italians signalling that they are prepared to make a second offer, clubs across Europe with an interest in Matt O’Riley will be aware that it’s now or never time as far as their own ambitions to sign the player are concerned.
