THE CELTIC support displayed this banner ahead of today’s 3-1 win against Partick Thistle at Firhill.

It read ‘Back the manager or back to mediocrity,’ and few supporters, other than the ones with Lawwell printed on the back their Celtic tops, would disagree.

“We’ve had a couple of targets we haven’t been able to get,” Brendan admitted after the game.

“But I’ve always had a very, very good relationship with the board and that’s the same, even though some people will try to dismantle that.

“We want to improve the team and we’ve got until the end of August to do that. If we don’t, I work with the talented players we have here.”

Chris Davies stressed yesterday that there is no problem between the manager and the board but there is no doubting the events of the past week which saw John McGinn being lost to Aston Villa, Brendan Rodgers speaking out on the eve of the AEK Athens game at Celtic Park, defeats in Edinburgh and Athens – the latter costing the club around £30million and the supporters mostly backing the manager against the board in the row.

And if all that wasn’t enough Boyata and his agent combined to cause even more trouble, annoyingly a day or so after we could have punted him to Fulham for £12million.

Rodgers is now ready to move on and hopes that a few new signings will be arriving soon.

With Jason Denayer opting for Lyon – see HERE and Boyata hopefully out the door over the next few days, we got another chance to be impressed by Jack Hendry today. He didn’t shine did he, although he did end up in a winning Celtic side. That actually is quite unusual for the former Dundee man!

Gamboa looked decent at right back and Emilio proved that he is excellent cover for KT on the left but we need a couple of decent central defenders. Please Peter, just get it done.
