Vasilis Barkas was one of the worst Celtic signings we’ve had in recent years. Signed for something in the region of £4.5 million the Greek goalie looked like a mere amateur in the the games he played for the club.

Ultimately he was cut loose by the club in the summer and signed for Dutch side Utrecht on a free, the same club he spent on loan last season. Such was the level of performance for Celtic that fans were questioning on social media whether he was the same player that was given the No.1 jersey.

Barkas produced a unbelievable double save to thwart PSV in the Dutch Eredivisie yesterday. It was a save that had every Celtic supporter shaking their head in disbelief.

The best and worst of Vasilis Barkas showcased in contrasting clip

Barkas must have been a decent keeper at one point as he played in the Champions League with AEK Athens and was a Greek international.

He just didn’t show that at Celtic, he was quite frankly rank rotten and proved a very expensive mistake. Celtic ultimately got it right with Barkas and it was clear that the player recognised that the move failed to pan out as had been hoped.

Is Barkas going to turn his career around? Maybe, and good luck to him.

Maybe if Barkas had produced that sort of form at Celtic things would have been different. That all ifs and buts thought. The truth is he was a worse goalie than Gordon Marshall, and that’s saying something!

Just an Ordinary Bhoy
