‘Be very, very careful about this notion of putting an asterisk after Celtic’s 9-in-a-row’

It’s not often we have the fairer sex writing on The Celtic Star, and it feels like Scottish football is getting something of a row here! This woman is involved in Higher Education at a very senior level and she and her colleagues worry that the self interest being shown all around Scottish football could have wider implications for young people in Scotland. Clearly she is not happy about it and decided to contact The Celtic Star.

And while she doesn’t mention them by name, there is no doubt which club (clue, founded in 2012) she is referring to  – their calls for an asterisk to be added to Celtic’s Championship has got the academics up in arms!

Here’s what she’s been saying, with name and email address supplied but withheld by The Celtic Star…

Dangers of a CV Asterisk

I have been on phone to colleague about Board business. Almost the second thing he said was that we had to be very, very careful about this notion of putting an asterisk after Celtic’s 9-in-a-row. He believes that that would be a very bad precedent and potentially damaging to Scotland’s young people who are gaining their school and university qualifications this year.

This is spot on, I think. Are they to have the stigma of an asterisk (actual or virtual) on their qualifications as they go into their careers?

Do our young people not have enough to contend with, without a group of self-interested, sore losers creating more, and unnecessary, risks for them?

They should grow up and let our young people grow up with confidence in the outcome of their school, college and university courses. Knowing that whatever difficulties and sacrifices this virus currently demands of them, this young generation should hold their heads high in future interviews and life.

They closed their revision books, said goodbye to their friends and stayed home to help their elders.

The adults need to accept that any business, education or football league cut short by CV19 is what it is, and they should have the maturity and common sense to see the bigger picture. Get over it!
