Doak is a gem who can go right to the top, but Celtic didn’t let him go. He didn’t want to be here.
Ben Doak is making headlines down south and indeed up here after turning in good displays with Liverpool pre season. Jurgen Klopp highly rates him and it’s not hard to see why.
Ben of course came through the Celtic youth system and made his debut age just 16 under Ange Postecoglou, coming on as a sub in a home win over Dundee United. He would later appear as a substitute in the 3-0 victory over theRangers a few days later.
It would prove to be his last appearance in the Celtic first team as he departed for Liverpool a few months later with the club receiving around £600,000 in compensation.
Despite Celtic fighting to keep him, young Ben decided to make the leap to the EPL. He most likely received an attractive salary and one we couldn’t compete with.
I understand young Ben’s decision. Being offered changing money and the chance to work with Jurgen Klopp at a side such as Liverpool would be very hard for a young lad to turn down, and it looks like paying off as he’s now on the fringes of the first team at a relatively young age.
What bothers me if folk moaning about the club letting him go. That’s very much misinformed. Celtic didn’t let Ben go, they tried hard to keep him, but he decided to head for pastures new.
It was all Ben’s decision and disappointing as it is for Celtic. good luck to him, I hope he goes far in the game. He isn’t the first youngster to be tempted by the riches of the EPL and he certainly won’t be the last.
Just an Ordinary Bhoy
Great talent, I hope he makes it far. Gutted that Celtic couldn’t keep a hold of him, but the honest truth is that we can’t compete with the financial pull of the EPL. He’s definitely not the first, and he certainly won’t be the last. https://t.co/vKYbqa1uQL
