It would have been great for Celtic to have signed Kieran Tierney, but we wish him well for his time over in the beautiful city of San Sebastián in the Basque Country…

Kieran Tierney was linked for a while with a return to Celtic on loan, but that’s been kiboshed after he sealed a season long loan move to La Liga side Real Sociedad.

Whether there was any substance to a move back up north for the Arsenal man is another thing. Sociedad have been rumoured to be paying his full salary which is rumoured to be £110k a week, so I very much doubt he was ever that close to a dream return to Celtic Park.

Some Celtic supporters still feel a little bit wary towards KT after his move to Arsenal, but he’s an ambitious lad and moving to a top league on big wages would have been hard for him to turn down, even as a Celtic supporter. It was an offer most would find hard to refuse and let’s be honest, it suited Celtic to sell a home grown Celtic Academy player for £25million.

After an excellent start at the Emirates it’s turned rather sour for the Scotland man last season. Why that is the case is a complete mystery as he was being tipped as the next Arsenal captain at one point.  He’s still a popular figure with the Gunners support so rumours of a fall out with Mikel Arteta most likely have a ring of truth about it.

Kieran Tierney is a class act and Arsenal’s loss is Real Sociedad’s gain. Moving to Spain and playing for a decent club who will compete in the Champions League this year is a great move for him. We should wish him all the best and hope he’s a success, as I’m sure he will be. Maybe in a few years time, the door will open for him to see out the last few seasons of his career playing for Celtic again.

All the best KT, hope you smash it.
