Bizarre report claims Celtic are interested in West Ham striker

Celtic are reportedly competing with Leeds United for the signature of West Ham United striker Michail Antonio. The Europa Conference League holders have had a difficult transfer window so far with David Moyes unable to effectively build upon their success in Europe last year but Antonio is said to be close to leaving.

In a bizarre report on Monday, Football Transfers claimed that the 33-year-old wants a move away from East London and it is believed that there would likely be a number of teams interested in the Jamaican Internationalist.

Since joining West Ham, Antonio has made 276 appearances and scored 75 goals while assisting 43 times. The veteran striker is powerful and effective in his hold-up play but has lost the extra yard of pace that made him Moyes’ favourite forward.

Leeds United are probably the most likely to sign Antonio as he fits the style of Championship football. Brendan Rodgers has Oh, Kyogo and Daizen Maeda at his disposal but it is imagined that if he were to sign another forward, it would not be a striker on the wrong side of 30. There is also the fact that West Ham are paying Antonio around £70k so he is more likely to see his wages matched/increased with a move elsewhere.
