JOZO SIMUNOVIC looked set to join Croatian side Rijeka on a free transfer on Friday. However, the Croatian outfit have decided against signing the Croatian defender due to worries out his fitness. Simunovic, who spent a period of time injured during the last few seasons, will be worried about his future after the latest blow in his hunt for a new club.
The Scottish Sun are reporting that the Croatian side were unconvinced with Simunovic’s injury record and decided against offering him a deal on the basis that his fitness was yet to be proven.
The Croatian defender joined from Dinamo Zagreb in 2015 following Virgil Van Dijk’s departure for Southampton. The 26-year-old signed a contract extension back in 2017 for four-years and it was expected that the club would exercise the option of the fourth year after his impressive domestic displays; however, Celtic opted to let the player go to make space in the squad for the arrival of Shane Duffy.
Simunovic will be hoping to earn a pay-as-you-play deal with a team in the coming weeks as he attempts to return to playing football.
