The Martin Boyle to Celtic rumour seems to be gathering pace as the Hibs attacker appears to be on Neil Lennon’s shopping list this January.
Despite an injury hell over the last two years, Boyle has still been one of Hibernian’s top performers and even earned the Player of the Month accolade in December. Now, it appears that Celtic are in for the Australian internationalist to give the Scottish Champions some depth in the wide areas following the departure of Scott Sinclair and Lewis Morgan.
With six goals and five assists in his last 13 games, Boyle has earned the attention of Celtic with scout Tosh McKinlay watching versus Dundee United and Head of Football Operations Nick Hammond watching versus Hamilton.
Boyle has 18 months left on his deal with the Easter Road club but according to reports in the Daily Mail, the 26-year-old won’t be sold cheaply by Jack Ross. Hibs are quoted as being ready to play hardball but would part with Boyle for ‘£1.5m’.
After providing two assists for Hibs versus Hamilton, Jack Ross told the media that Boyle would be the last person he would like lose but isn’t bothered about Celtic watching.
“He’s the last person I’d like to lose from this club. I’ve had it with players before – they’re players who get results and you enjoy watching them then people take them off you.
“But I’m not bothered with others watching him because it means he’s playing well for me.”
Neil Lennon will of course know what he can get from Boyle, Hammond and McKinlay watching Boyle highlights that Celtic are being cautious with their scouting before committing to a deal.
