Dessers’ comments make for some interesting reading and Brendan Rodgers can make the most of his words…

Yesterday theRangers striker Cyriel Dessers made some interesting comments to the media in the aftermath of his sides Scottish Cup semi final victory over Hearts.

The much criticised Nigerian striker scored the two goals that set his side up for a Glasgow Derby clash in the Scottish Cup Final on the 25th of May against Celtic and was clearly in a bullish mood as he spoke of his expectations for the remainder of the campaign.

To be fair to him his words were taken out of context as you’d expect from the headline chasing hacks, but he didn’t exactly help himself with his choice of words. Dessers said: “If you look at the last few months we’ve shown what we’re capable of and I think it’s just trying to get the vibe back. If we can find that rhythm back then I think we are the best team in the league and hopefully we can show that in the next few games.”

Although it’s not exactly Dessers telling Celtic that theRangers are the best side in Scotland, as the record sensationalised it, it wasn’t far off it.

That should be music to the ears of the Celtic manager and his players. Dessers is not the first and won’t be the last player playing out of Ibrox to make false claims and promises before all is done and dusted. The arrogance and unprofessionalism in that aspect at Ibrox remains staggering. Celtic players don’t do this because they prefer to do their talking on the park.

If Dessers and his teammates will all their remaining game then they will be Champions and Treble winners and that is the time to say what you like about being the best team in Scotland. If is a big word in football, a sort where counting chickens often leads to egg on your face.

The fact is that Celtic are the current champions, we are currently top of the table, and theRangers have failed to beat us in three encounters this season. To claim at this stage to even think they are the better side is laughable.

It’s an old cliche but the Daily Record headline should be pinned by Brendan on the dressing room door and be used as an extra bit of motivation in our quest to win the double.  Attention now returns to the Scottish Premiership.

It’s a Super Sunday in the Scottish Premiership this weekend as St Mirren host theRangers on Sunday in Paisley with that game kicking off at 12.30pm ahead of the Dundee v Celtic match kicking off later in the afternoon at 3pm.  Celtic currently have a three points lead and a better goal difference (+5).

The main Celtic focus will be working on our defence after shipping three goals to Aberdeen at the weekend.
