Brendan Rodgers says Celtic need to sign two strikers

Brendan Rodgers has said that he wants three strikers in his Celtic first team. The Irishman currently only has Kyogo as his only out and out first team striker despite heavy links with a permanent move for Adam Idah.

The Scottish Champions have had a bid rejected for the Irish attacker as they look to raid Norwich for the attacker that helped Celtic to a League & Scottish Cup double last year.

Speaking ahead of Wednesday morning’s game with Manchester City, Rodgers confessed that the club need to bring two new strikers to the club this summer.

“I think my ideal scenario was to have three, was to have Kyogo, one other one and bring through a young player.

“That was the role we came up for at Rocco. It’s very difficult for a club of this size to have three number one strikers. You can live with two because we play so many games and the specific nature of the games then we can change it about. Three is very difficult. But I also think for development I want to bring some young, maybe a player from within.

“Rocco was that but he’s moved on. So we may have to look elsewhere. But three is a really good number. Two, I would say to be number one strikers, and one that we can nurture and develop.”

Celtic could look to bring in a young forward that could act as a third choice striker behind Kyogo (and hopefully Idah). Brendan has previously spoken about wanting that to be Rocco Vata but since the youngster opted to move to Championship side Watford, the club are looking for another young player to take up that role.

Norwich have claimed that there is no further development in Celtic’s pursuit of Idah. Celtic are expected to revisit their interest in the player but fans have been slightly concerned by the lack of progress with a deal that it has been clear that the manager is keen to pursue.
