Brighton boss Graham Potter confirms Duffy is staying at Celtic for the season

Shane Duffy will NOT be cutting short his season long loan deal and instead will stay at Celtic to turn around his poor form. That’s the opinion of the Brighton manager Graham Potter.

Sky Sports Reporter Anthony Joseph has just reported that the Brighton manager has confirmed that Duffy will see out the season at the Scottish Champions and that the deal is indeed for the entire season.

A report on Video Celts last week indicated that Celtic had a break clause which they could utilise in January by sending the Irish skipper back to Brighton & Hove Albion but that appears not to be the case.

“It’s a season long loan,” Potter said, as reported by Brighton and Hove Independent. “That’s how it has been from the start, that’s how we see it. In the season you’re going to get ups and downs.

“It’s a bit of a challenging situation, but knowing Shane he is a fighter and he’s a good character. He will come through and has something to prove. I am sure he will get back to being the player he will want to be and everyone knows he can be.”

Duffy is likely to start this evening against Lille in the dead rubber Europa League campaign which has seen Celtic collect just one point from 15 with their bottom place in the group and certain elimination from Europe already assured.

Duffy had previously revealed that Celtic were paying all of his Premier League sized wages this season, after suggestions that Brighton were still paying a percentage. There was also talk of Celtic having paid a £2million loan fee to secure the loan deal of the former Blackburn Rovers man.

Duffy arrived at Celtic and scored a few goals in his early starts at Ross County and St Mirren but has subsequently seen a dip in form as he has dropped out of contention for the starting eleven in recent weeks, despite the team struggling badly.
