SCOTT BROWN spent almost six years with Craig Gordon at Celtic and even longer with the big goalie on International duty with Scotland. After Celtic beat Aberdeen on Sunday, there would be a Hampden reunion for the duo that came up through opposite sides of the Edinburgh divide; however, Gordon would be turning out for his new club, Hearts.
As reported by BT Sport, Brown backs Gordon to make a Scotland return as well as continuing to defy critics and continue playing at a high level, much like the Celtic captain himself.
“He was brilliant on Saturday, with some saves he made to keep his team in it,” said Brown.
“He’s a fantastic goalkeeper, everyone knows how good he is and he just keeps proving it.
“Age doesn’t really matter to him. He still believes he can do it and pretty much me and Craig are in the same boat.
“A lot of people keep writing us off but we keep going, we keep coming back and it is about that mental toughness that everyone has got and Craig has it in abundance.”
Gordon has 54 caps for Scotland, one less than Brown but the 35-year-old reckons his former colleague will be knocking on the door of the national team after a fine start to his second spell at Tynecastle.
“Everyone knows he has still got it. Craig is a fantastic goalkeeper.
“He probably will be in the Scotland squad after that performance and it’s a good headache to have for Steve Clarke.”
Gordon failed to agree a contract extension with Celtic leaving him free to join his boyhood club after a number of trophy-laden years with the Scottish Champions. The 37-year-old was in impressive form between the sticks for the Jam Tarts as they booked a place in the 2020 Scottish Cup Final, setting up a repeat of the 2019 Final, which Celtic won 2-1.
Meanwhile Brown is on the cusp of yet more footballing history, 90 minutes and one Craig Gordon standing between a Quadruple Treble. Not only that, Celtic are going for 10IAR this season, which would surpass the record created by Jock Stein in 1974.
