Build bridges then it’s all in place for Brendan Rodgers at Celtic

It’s all in place for Brendan to be even more successful second time around as Celtic manager…

They say in football that you should never go back to a place you were successful, but for Brendan Rodgers it has the potential to be even better second time around.

When Brendan arrived for his first spell in charge back in 2016 we had a decent squad, but not a patch on the current squad in my opinion. He was also under pressure to qualify for the champions league group stages, something he doesn’t need to ponder currently.

Instead he walks into a place he knows like the back of his hand and with an assistant he knows particularly well.

The back room staff will play a vital role in Brendan’s plans. John Kennedy, like the rest of the coaching staff know the players inside out, and that will benefit Rodgers greatly.

He will get to know his players when they all return to the training ground very shortly, the trip to the Far East will also help him create a bond with the squad which will benefit everyone. Brendan’s philosophy and style is similar to what Ange implemented, so it won’t be a major overhaul or adjustment for the players to deal with.

It is clear that Brendan has the potential to be even better second time around. He has the players, he has the backroom staff, he has the financial backing. Everything is in place for him to succeed other than getting the support entirely onside and behind him and his team.

That was probably the greatest achievement for Ange Postecoglou at Celtic – the manner in which he united everyone from the Boardroom to the players and supporters with everyone buying into his vision. He tackled the mainstream media head on and after a while you could sense their fear at locking horns with the fearsome Aussie.

That kind of unity is what Brendan Rodgers needs to establish and the media can already smell division and therefore blood as the Green Brigade and other reacted negatively to his appointment yesterday, which incidentally was only made possible because Ange Postecoglou upped sticks for the Premier League faster than Rodgers himself did in 2019.
