Calmac back to his brilliant best, on that form there really is no-one better…
It’s fair to say that Callum McGregor has been under par so far this season. The skipper would most likely be the first person to admit so. He’s set such high standards these past few years that anything less than perfect is seen as underperforming.
But we needn’t have worried as he was back to his brilliant best at Ibrox yesterday afternoon as he put in a superb performance, one of a true leader. Callum along with Matt O’Riley ran the show in the midfield. No one could touch them. Callum makes the game look so easy and that pass that released Liel Abada early on to create a chance for Kyogo was mesmerising.
Callum is the best midfielder in the country when he’s on form and yesterday proved that. He’s a vital player for us and never let us down. That makes it all the more remarkable that some supporters on social media were calling for him to be dropped for the Derby.
It shows how much they know eh? It was never going to happen anyway as Callum is a terrific player and leader as he proved yesterday. Callum McGregor is a fantastic footballer and an inspirational Celtic captain, we are so lucky to have a player of his ability.
He’s going to be around for a good few years yet so we should enjoy watching him and just thunk how much silverware he’s likely to lift before he eventually hangs up his boots?
Just an Ordinary Bhoy
In big matches, we expect our big players to step up, and yesterday we finally got that.
Calmac sets our standards and thankfully so many followed suit, with the unexpected bonus of scales really making his mark.
Yet we still need to address the issue of what we do and adjust accordingly when team’s are going to play the man marking approach upon calmac.
Oreily done superb in assisting calmac, where turnbull failed.
Hopefully this issue improves upon the return of hatate and Paulo can add the extra reinforcing needed within our midfield area.
To move forward we can’t remain as a team that depends so much upon the form of our captain, no matter how good and dependable we are upon him also.
Calmac as a player will need to adjust to the unwanted attention upon his own game, but such a thoroughbred as a footballer that the adjustment to his game should be handled without to many problems.
Still requires others to step up to make the functioning of the team to work so well, and still believe we have the players to do so, even if turnbull is struggling to remain as a solution.
With better movement and awareness from our CB then the problem that existed will be fixed to a far better degree than our overall performances have been to date imo.
Our captain for a reason and has done brilliant since taking the armband and long may it continue, and certainly a character within the team to continue with making his importance felt to the team.
