Callum McGregor missing from Celtic training ahead of Tynecastle visit

Callum McGregor was absent from Celtic training ahead of the trip to Tynecastle at the weekend. The Celtic skipper was subbed off at half-time after making it 6-0 during the impressive 7-1 win against Dundee.

According to Sky Sports, the Scotland Internationalist was not involved as the team were put through their paces by John Kennedy.

On Wednesday night, McGregor was replaced by Daniel Kelly, who netted the seventh. The Scotland U19s starlet played well, taking his chance. Although, it is hoped that the 30-year-old will be fit for the game on Sunday.

With ten games to go, Celtic will require their skipper to anchor the midfield and control performances. Cameron Carter-Vickers’ return sparked an improvement of form and Reo Hatate is expected to return soon. Hopefully the absence was just a precaution or the player was speaking with manager Brendan Rodgers, who was also absent from the training while Sky watched on.

Hopefully when the manager speaks to the media at lunchtime, he can clarify the situation with CalMac and hopefully it is not an injury.

The word going round at the CFC Foundation Dinner, which Callum McGregor was expected to attend, was that he has a minor illness and that he will probably be fit to play on Sunday.
