Return for Carl Starfelt seems unlikely, but it wouldn’t be the worst idea in the window…

Carl Starfelt looks set to leave Celta Vigo only one year after his move from Celtic. The La Liga side have said that they are open to offers for the Swedish international who had a decent campaign as Celta finished 13th in the table.

This has led to rumours of a return to Glasgow, and although it seems unlikely it’s not the worst idea in the world. Carl Starfelt is 29 and would cost a few million to bring back to Glasgow, and with our transfer strategy, it’s a bit of a non starter.

Carl had his critics amongst the Celtic supporters, but rather unfairly in my book as he was a decent defender. He struck up a great understanding with CCV and they formed a solid partnership, which was instrumental in our success under Ange Postecoglou.

Signing a quality defender as experienced as Carl would be a great move, but it would be deemed as ‘lazy scouting’ by some, and also our board wouldn’t entertain the idea of signing a 29 year old for a costly sum.

So I think we can draw a line under this rumour, unless of course Brendan thinks differently! He’s the gaffer after all!
