Even now, Carl Starfelt still splitting opinions among Celtic supporters…
Carl Starfelt may have left Celtic six months ago, but he’s still splitting opinions among Celtic supporters. A recent post I posted on Twitter was testament to that and to say that Starfelt is still dividing opinions is an understatement. The replies to this tweet are well worth reading, including this observation on Carl Starfelt: “The most underrated player in the ange era”.
Carl Starfelt. Carl was a decent player for us who was the subject of some unfair criticism by a section of our support. I think they now understand how good a player he was for us now he’s no longer here. pic.twitter.com/f6GPyDqEMf

Carl as we know was one of those players who was a target for the hard to please section of our support. He was very much the whipping boy in the eyes of some. For what reasons is anyone’s guess. It may stem from the fact that he had a turbulent first few games for the club, although that was due to the fact he had just arrived at the club and had to adapt to a new style of football.
Or it could be that they let the media control their thinking as we know how much stick they gave Carl when he first arrived. Whatever the reason I reckon that it was unfair, big Starfelt was a decent defender who contributed greatly to our success under Ange Postecoglou’s exciting, attacking Celtic side that won five trophies from six.
Starfelt formed a solid partnership at the back with CCV and although Celtic’s Big strong Man is the much better player, Carl more than played his part in our success these past couple of years. It’s worth remembering that like CCV, Starfelt is right-footed but played throughout his time at Celtic as a left-sided central defender.
While not being the best defender we’ve ever had, he was decent and did his job, and he deserves more credit than many were prepared to give him. He seems to have impressed in La Liga at Celta Vigo, under difficult circumstances. They are now up to 16th (from 20) after being in the relegation spots earlier in the campaign.

Nope. Scales so much better & Nawrocki looks better too. Starshite played with CCV, who always makes his partner’s oh so important stats look better. Starshite was awful on the ball & his passig was piss poor. He looked like a deer in the headlights, was prone tae a mistake EVERY SINGLE GAME. A mistake that would/ could/ did cost us goals & games. Let’s not make up any mare stories. The fact that he’s now at the 16th best team in La Liga, up from the 20th, is the stat you’re using tae back up your argument? Hahahaha! That’s ridiculous, mate. You’ve never seen him play oot there, you dinnae know that he’s now playin in a back 5, as the spare man, but somehow we miss him? Ridiculous!
If you played the game you’d know, but so many fans are just that, fans. Never kicked a baw in their life at any decent level so just do not know/ see the same things that some ppl do. Starfelt was wash, so is Maeda. As is Bernabei, Mikey Johnston & Turnbull.
Not celtic class. Never was, never will be.
If I am honest never rated him but still did ok the same with maeda misses so many chances does a lot running around but a pretty average player only being honest m Johnston not that good bernabei rubbish Turnbull ok sometimes .
