I watched this one on Celtic TV and enjoyed the commentary of Paul Cuddihy and Tom Boyd, who are not the worst of commentators and seem to share my and everyone else’s opinion of VAR.
The sending off of David Turnbull was absolutely ludicrous and I assume the club will contest that one! And of course we had one or two equally ludicrous attempts to cheat Celtic of goals, although VAR was probably right about the St Johnstone goal. But it’s Christmas, so let’s say no more about VAR, whom I forgot to send a Christmas card to!
Let’s talk instead about the four Japanese goals. Great stuff (by the way, did we get VAR on that goal that Kyogu and many of us thought was over the line?) and all the result of some fine Celtic play. I had yet to warm to Aaron Mooy, but I did so today, and I think he played his best game in our colours (yes, I know they were not really our colours, but it was for a good cause, was it not?). Matt O’Riley is a good midfielder, but nor a finisher, I don’t think, and how nice it was to see James Forrest playing so well!
It was an outstanding first half, and although we dropped the intensity in the second half a little, we were always well on top, and let’s hope that Santa sees fit to ignore the Govan pleas for 9 extra points and more VAR. A Merry Christmas to all, even to those in Govan!
Hibs on Wednesday night for the last game on 2022. It would be nice to finish off the year with a win!
