Celtic always comes first but support your country

International breaks are usually dire, but this one was different. With club football in the midst of a well earned summer break it was good to see some form of football on our screens, excluding Spain v Croatia last night which was dire to watch.

Saturday was a good day for the Scottish national side as Callum McGregor and co defeated Erling Haaland and Norway to make it three wins out of three in the European championship qualifiers and now have their fourth match at Hampden tomorrow evening against Georgia, who also won at the weekend, beating Cyprus 2-1 in Larnaca.

Scotland is now in a good position to qualify for our second consecutive Euros and it will be a great position if we can win tomorrow at Hampden. Steve Clarke is doing a superb job for us, the football might not be the best, but it’s been a success and us Scots can once more dream of qualifying for major tournaments.

Unfortunately not all of our split nation sees it that way, peculiarly a lot of ‘Scots’ can’t bring themselves to show their support to the national side.

Why is that, well of course we all know about the strange ‘politics’ at play in this confused little country of ours.

I include some of our support in that, as a percentage support the Republic of Ireland over Scotland. That’s their choice, I suppose and Ireland is a wonderful nation close to our hearts and I like to see them doing well, but it’s Scotland first for me.

The other side of the city of course have a disturbing love for England, as it’s more British and that’s also their choice. But England? Come on. I find it difficult to explain that one.

About Author

An ordinary everyday Celtic supporters hailing and still residing in Govan in the shadows of the enemy. I’m a season ticket holder. I Witnessed my first Celtic game in 1988 and have attended when I can ever since. Growing up in the 90s I witnessed Celtic at their lowest, and now appreciate the historic success we enjoy today. I enjoy writing about this wonderful football club and hopefully will continue to do so. I’ve always been a keen writer and initially started this a hobby. My ambition is to one day become as good an author as my fellow Celtic Star colleagues.

Look how many caps the Lisbon lions got between them considering they were the best side in Europe and Danny McGrain best right back in Europe being played left back to accommodate sandy jardine. that’s where not being a Scotland fan started for me.

    • I’m with you on this. Born and brought up in Scotland and will always be a Scot despite her faults and idiosyncrasies. Great to see the team doing so well and with so many players with Celtic links. Great to see.
