Celtic and Adidas – Laughing all the way to the bank

The new top isn’t proving popular amongst the fans, but it will prove popular in terms of sales.

The new Celtic home top which is to be unveiled on Friday is not proving to be that popular, well that is being kind. It’s has an absolute slaughtering on social media over the past 24 hours or so.

Going by the images I’ve seen like everyone else, I have to admit it doesn’t look like one of Adidas’s best efforts. Some are saying it’s possibly our worst, even worse than the dreadful Peoples Ford one of the early 90s, the one that looked as if had a tin of paint chucked over it.

Me personally? I’ll wait until I see it modelled on a player or up close in the shops. Sometimes you can change your mind about something if you have a proper look at it, maybe this one is one that will grow on us. You never know.

Regardless of how nice or horrid it is, there is one guarantee, and that is it will sell by the bucketload. It’s a cert. It will be in high demand, and the club and Adidas will be laughing all the way to the bank. And if as expected that happens then they won’t care a jot what folk thought of it before anyone got a proper chance to see it close up in the shops or on the press images that the club will release later this week.

I Witnessed my first Celtic game in 1988 and have attended when I can ever since. Growing up in the 90s I witnessed Celtic at their lowest, and now appreciate the historic success we enjoy today. I enjoy writing about this wonderful football club and hopefully will continue to do so. I’ve always been a keen writer and initially started this a hobby. My ambition is to one day become as good an author as my fellow Celtic Star colleagues.

  1. Last season was the first time I’ve never bought a Celtic shirt as designs were poor. I’m 52 and supported Celtic since I can remember and alway bought a new home or away shirt. Sometimes both. But these Adidas designers are a joke and treating Celtic fans like wise. Thinking oh it’s OK Celtic fans will buy anything. Well you’re wrong. For a second season I won’t have a home shirt, if this is in fact the design getting released. Celtic need to get rid of Adidas or stop agreeing to poorly designed shirts. That design is a monstrosity.

People need to be more open minded – lots of fans wouldn’t accept anything other than a Lisbon replica ! A design from 60 years ago !! I think it looks great ! Modern, stylish and a sure seller. Its a football top !!
